By Gregg Eppleman • Sep 15th, 2007 • Category: MSC Cruises

MSC Cruises is turning the MSC Sinfonia into a one week golf academy with Chuck Cook, Chuck Cook cruise blogsdirector of the world renowned Chuck Cook Golf Academy at Barton Creek Resort and Spa in Austin, Texas. Cruisers will have the pleasure of a fabulous 7 day western Mediterranean cruise while enjoying an extensive golf experience with Chuck, and his assistant, American Coach Andrea Ferlito. Chuck Cook is one of Golf Magazine’s Top 100 teachers (Emeritus). As usual, MSC Cruises has incorporated only the best leisure time programs on their cruise ships. The cruise departs Genoa on October 22 visiting some of the western Mediterranean’s finest ports, Monte Carlo, Spanish Valencia, Valletta, Tunis and Rome. It’s a fairly complete program, offering seminars, evening tournaments, and individual coaching and lessons for various levels of ability.

The MSC Sinfonia is the perfect scenario for hosting this golf clinic, offering a double carpeted golf cgae, putting green, mini golf, and golf simulators located on the Schubert Deck. Combine this with MSC’s ability to deliver a high level of comfort in one of their 800 cabins, all tended to by their excellent staff. Amenities on board include four adult and children’s swimming pools, four restaurants, a cigar room, a theatre, mini-club, disco, and the ultimate Spa Beauty Center, featuring a sauna, gym and relaxation room.
The three programs available to golfers are:
-Basic: for those looking for instruction at a rudimentary technical and practical level, with professionals on hand to assist all the way.
-Advanced: for those who can play and are looking to improve their swing and technical knowledge.
-Chuck Cook Golf Academy: reserved for players with a handicap. There will be two groups: the first for those with a handicap 0-18, the second for handicaps from 19-36. Every group will be coached in rotation by Chuck Cook and his pool of experts to provide direction for the approaches, the putts and getting out of a bunker - fundamentals needed to obtain excellent results on the green.
As an added bonus, on the last day of the cruise, participants will play to win the Golf Punk Trophy Cup. This is the award for the winner of the tournament to be played at Querce di Sutri course in Civitavecchia.
MSC Cruises’ “Best Fare, Best Room” rates begin at $995 for an interior stateroom and $1,195 for an oceanview stateroom. All prices are USD, cruise only, per person, double occupancy; government fees and taxes are additional.
Special golf packages (per person) include the Chuck Cook Golf Academy, $1,020; Advanced Golf, $780; Basic Golf, $650; participation in the final match, $390 (and $180 for additional person).
