Peter Ueberroth Hosting Alaska Cruise on Majestic America Line

By Gregg Eppleman • Jan 25th, 2008 • Category: Majestic America Line

Quietly cruising the pristine waters of North America, Peter Ueberroth and visiting some of the most beautiful spots on earth, Majestic America Line, one of the world’s premier river cruise lines and the largest river and coastal cruising company in America, continues to maintain its small ship position as an outstanding cruise adventure. Now, they have begun recruiting special guests to enhance the experience even more. Most recent addition is the special Alaska cruise aboard the 223-guest Empress of the North departing Juneau, May 24, 2008, hosted by distinguished sports leader and business entrepreneur Peter Ueberroth. Ueberroth currently serves on the board of directors for Ambassadors International, Inc., the parent company of Majestic America Line.

“On this exclusive cruise featuring Mr. Ueberroth, guests will have the opportunity to enjoy
Alaska’s wilderness, wildlife and history on board the luxurious Empress of the North,” said
Diane Moore, Executive Vice President, Majestic America Line.
Ueberroth served as the sixth commissioner of Major League Baseball, was president of the
organization responsible for staging and operating the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games,
named 1984 Man of the Year by Time Magazine and authored the bestseller “Made in America.”
He founded the First Travel Corporation in 1962 and sold the company in 1980, when it was the
second-largest travel business in North America. Currently, Ueberroth is the managing director
of Contrarian Group Inc., and owner and co-chairman of the Pebble Beach Company. He
serves as chairman of the U.S. Olympic Committee Board of Directors and is on the board of
directors for The Coca-Cola Company and Hilton Hotels Corporation.
The 7-night roundtrip cruise visits Alaska’s most colorful ports of call including Juneau, the Gold
Rush capital with its colorful boomtown frontier history and nearby Mendenhall Glacier; Sitka,
once known as the capital of Russian America, accessible only by sea or air; Skagway, and its
storied boardwalk; and Petersburg, a Scandinavian-influenced fishing village also called Little
Norway.
The cruise also transits Peril Strait, the 22-mile-long Wrangell Narrows and Lynn Canal, North
America’s longest glacial fjord. Guests will also have the opportunity to take an unforgettable
cruise into the mouth of the Stikine River, considered one of the last truly wild rivers in North
America. On the final day, the trip culminates with one of the most dramatic travel experiences
in the world – Endicott Arm and Dawes Glacier and a breathtaking journey through the 26-milelong
Tracy Arm featuring North and South Sawyer Glaciers.
The Empress of the North reflects a Russian Alaskan theme, where guests enjoy modern fivestar
comfort, service, convenience and sense of adventure. Expansive art collections throughout
the ship display unique Native American artifacts and Russian antiquities such as beautiful and
rare Fabergé eggs.

With just 112 staterooms and suites, the Empress of the North provides intimate access to the
scenic places, historical events and varied cultures that have shaped the great land and
provides guests with a view of the vast wilderness and waterways of Alaska’s Inside Passage
that most Alaska cruises miss.
