When to Go

Tulip season runs from April through mid-May, and is by far one of the best times to visit Amsterdam. If weather is your main concern, stick to touring Amsterdam from May through October, when daily temperatures are mild (70 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit) and the evening temperatures are in the 50s and 60s. Damp conditions exist almost year-round and make for especially bone-chilling winters. Winter temperatures range from 30 to 40 degrees. Cloudless days are rare.

What to Take

An umbrella and a warm sweater are highly recommended for travelers to Amsterdam. Take one to two pairs of good walking shoes, as you’ll be walking a great deal. An extra pair of shoes is suggested in case the other pair becomes wet.
