Costa Cruises will never to be able to deliver for Dominos, but they did manage to break the world record for the longest pizza line. Charity was also a winner at the milestone. Costa is celebrating 60 years afloat, and as part of the festivities at the Viva Leichhardt Festival, Norton Street was transformed into a giant table on June 8 where 826 pizzas were lined up to break the world record to 221m – the length of our cruise ship, Costa Classica, which will be based in the Asia Pacific from May 2009.
Costa’s 60th Anniversary event was a great family fun day with street entertainment, children’s activities and the chance to win a Costa Cruise. Community members were also invited to play their part in the attempt by helping make the pizzas on the day.
Twenty-five Sydney chefs headed the pizza-making challenge, which used more than 500 kilograms of flour, 250 litres of tomato sauce and 350 kilograms of mozzarella cheese.
Costa Cruises was proud to support The Variety Club and OzHarvest as part of this record-breaking event.
The 53,000 gross tonnage Costa Classica will be deployed from March 27 through November 7, 2009 on 33 cruises lasting between from 4 to 14 days, with departures out of Singapore, Shanghai, Tianjin and Hong Kong on itineraries offering the finest destinations in several Asian countries.
